The history of verone's sausage
Our famous sausage recipe traveled from the region of Calabria, Italy to the United States when the first Verone migrated to America. By 1923 Grandpa Joseph Verone was in the business of making Verone’s sausage and cutting meat in his Tacoma shop.
Grandpa Joseph taught his first born son Pete to cut meat, make Verone’s sausage and run the family meat market. After Pete Verone returned home from serving in WWII, he took over the family business renaming it Pete’s Quality Meats. He relocated the store front several times before settling on the brick-n-mortar meat market located on 13th & K St. for nearly three decades.
Like his father before him, Pete taught his 16 year old son Joe to cut meat, make Verone’s Sausage and run the family business. Joe assumed ownership of Pete’s Quality Meats shortly after returning home from serving in Vietnam, continuing the Verone’s Sausage Co. tradition and sharing the business with his daughter Renee and grandsons.
